Get Lost In The Grove

REDWOOD NATIONAL AND STATE PARK

I have never really had an interest in trees. Yes they are pretty and provide the oxygen that we breathe and support all life as well as ecosystems and micro climates but nothing prepared me for what I was about to witness when I visited Redwood National Park, (my fathers bucket list) and my interest for trees dramatically changed!

Redwood National Forest and State Park is a hidden natural wonder over shadowed by Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park which is a wonder for the Sequoia trees and spectacular views over the Sierra Nevada desert. A place which me and my father experienced but sadly did not spend long enough inside the park and not be able to look around because we were rookie English tourists without a vehicle in a country which prioritises the car as an essential tool of transportation to get to these locations. Alas, my father was satisfied with the Sequoias he saw but we were both not prepared for what we were about to witness, especially the person who can not remember a name of a tree. I felt like Jeremy Clarkson when he described himself when he hears the name of a tree in his audiobook, Farmers Guide. To use an indirect quote, ‘I hear the name of a tree but for the life of me, it never stick's’. Why? Because if the subject does not interest you then you are not going to remember. It’s just human nature!

‘The Californian Redwood’, that’s what they are called!
